6.8 SPC

The .223 / 5.56mm was primarily designed to humiliate the person being shot. The 6.8 was designed to kill, even if it doesn't hit the intended target. Even though they both use the same lowers, you can clearly see that the 6.8 Remington Special Purpose Cartridge is a superior round.

As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words*

I don't know if I'd go as far as saying a 5.56mm will just humiliate someone, sure it's a .22 caliber bullet, but it still has enough on it to easily be lethal, remember the DC snipers? They killed 10 and critically injured 3 people,at distance, using a 5.56mm....also the photo in your post is distorted, a quarter isn't that large compared to a 5.56mm round

Get the 50 BMG, it is far superior.

While we're at it......

The .308 and 8mm are superior to .223 as well.

Heck, nowadays the .308 is just slightly more than .223 rounds when buying in bulk.

:confused_ma:

Oh and .223 works just fine unless your target is behind a wall or some other barrier.

Re: 6.8 SPC

Oh agreed, my preference is .308, comes out the end of my 91 very strong, it's heavier to lug around, but gives you so much more edge

The 6.8 Special Purpose Cartridge will provide the military a more powerful cartridge than the 5.56mm that is adaptable to the M16/AR15 family of firearms. It propels a 115 grain bullet approximately 2700 fps and has a retained energy of approximately 650 foot pounds at 500 yards. Remington Arms designed the 6.8 SPC case from their old .30 Remington. This case required only slight modification to the M16's bolt face, was shortened slightly, given a new shoulder and blown out to maximum capacity for a new high-performance propellant. After testing a variety of bullets in 5.56mm, 6mm, 6.5mm, 7mm and 7.62mm, a bullet of 6.8mm was selected. This .270-caliber, 115-grain projectile has a ballistic coefficient of .360, offering optimum lethality and range. The energy level is about 150% of the current 5.56 NATO round and about 70% of the 7.62 NATO round. The recoil is very mild and M16/AR15 rifles are easily modified to fire the new cartridge.

This is a real photo. 6.8 on left 5.56 on right.

I'd say your picture is worth 3 words... Misrepresentation by Photoshop...

Re: 6.8 SPC

I really prefer the Grendel to the SPC. The biggest problem with the SPC is that it's balistic performance is the same as the .223. The Grendel uses the (much) superior 6.5 mm bullets that have great balistic coefficients.

6.5 Grendel has less drop at 1000 yards than a typical .308
